All 2017 Toyota Highlander Hybrids come equipped with the award winning D4S engine. A 3.5L V6 engine that comes mated with three electric motors. Net horsepower comes in at 306 with the added bonus of all-wheel drive which comes standard. The engine is an innovation which creates both high output and impressive fuel efficiency. Coupled to an eight speed direct shift automatic transmission that is highly responsive. Total towing capacity comes in at 5000 lbs. Highlander’s Hybrids offer the available stop and start system which shuts down the engine which the SUV is stopped and seamlessly restarts it when the accelerator is pressed. Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive powertrain is standard on all Highlander Hybrid models which comes with regenerative braking which recaptures lost power from the brakes and sends it back to the rechargeable battery. Equipped with eight standard airbags and front and rear clearance sonar which ensures the way is clear, the 2017 Highlander Hybrid hits a bulls eye in regards to safety. Toyota’s intelligent Safety Sense P® (TSSP) system comes standard and includes the pre-collision system with pedestrian detect which monitors the front of the vehicle and alerts the driver if an obstacle or pedestrian is detected. TSSP also includes automatic high beams which monitor oncoming traffic at night and switch on and off the high beams automatically as necessary for the drive can focus. Also included is the STAR® Safety System with systems that focus on braking and stability like brake assist, anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control.

For 2017 the Highlander Hybrid has received a refresh with an aggressive yet elegant front grill and upgraded LED front and rear lights. The SUV sits on standard 18” chrome-clad or optional 19” black or dark chrome-clad alloy wheels and is the perfect size to avoid looking cumbersome and brawny. On the inside there is seating for seven or eight inside the almost silent cabin. Highlander offers heated front row captain’s chairs in fabric, leather (XLE AWD/Hybrid) or perforated and ventilated leather (Limited/Limited Hybrid). The second row offers a 60/40 split drop down bench seats, or heated reclining captain’s chairs (available on XLE AWD). On the XLE and Limited models a remote controlled power rear door comes standard. There is also a flip up rear door upper half glass panel.

Bird’s Eye View monitoring system comes standard on the Limited model and combines four cameras to give a panoramic view from above the vehicle to keep an eye out for obstructions. This system is displayed on the 6.1” touchscreen which also displays the backup camera and is used for all infotainment. The SUV’s infotainment can be controlled by Siri® eyes free via Bluetooth® and offers steering wheel mounted audio and cruise controls. The driver can also use a microphone near the wheel to communicate with passengers in the back so that yelling to rear passengers is a thing of the past.
